Do you like doors that are hard to open or loud?

Neither do your guests. Stay with me to find out how to solve this problem.

Welcome to another edition of Hospitality Property School.

I am your instructor, Gerry MacPherson.

What does every hospitality property need to offer? Near the top of the list has to be convenience and security.

How can hospitality properties evolve? With smart access solutions.

Hospitality properties are more than just bricks and mortar, they move people. A busy property is the exact opposite of inactivity. With everything you have to deal with on a daily bases, one thing you might not notice but every guest notices it right away is: How does the door open? Am I really welcome? Do I feel safe here?

Perfecting security and openness at the same time isn’t always that simple, so in this episode, I will share things you should consider.

From family-run bed and breakfast, resort, inn, right up to luxury hotels – wherever you go the guests expect everything they have at home, and usually more.

Paying guests want convenience and security without compromise. Most pick up on everything that makes a property unique within a second of arrival. Your goal is always for your guests to feel comfortable and perceive their stay as an experience.

Individuality, unique design and quality are the fundamental factors that ensure guests feel personally valued. Simply the way the door opens into the property reception can say a lot. A friendly welcome doesn’t just come from the staff, it’s also dependent on the seamless interaction between convenience, design and technology.

To turn your property into an experience should be the goal of your architects, contractors or you as property owners and managers. You can appeal to the guests’ senses by keeping check-in brief and use digital technology to control access authorizations. Get doors to open and close by themselves to ensure immediate relaxation and if your property has a public spa area a level of intimacy appreciated by guests with digital access.

Here is what your hospitality property should consider

.

This is where it is important to image the entrance first. This is where personal appreciation of the guest begins and the door plays an important role here. You only get one chance to make a first impression.

Automatic entrance systems in the lobby ensure a smooth transition between inside and out, it cuts down on fighting with luggage and provides a thermal buffer from the outside.

A couple of ways this could be accomplished:

Revolving doors

As the central element of an attractive and energy-efficient entrance, revolving doors can improve control of public traffic and ease of passage for users.

Sliding doors

Entrance areas can be designed to look interesting and individual with the curved sliding door: semi-circles that curve outwards or inwards, segments, full circles, ovals or double segments – there are numerous possibilities.

Controlling all access authorizations

Every zone in a hospitality property is sensitive. Guests want to feel protected and still be able to move freely, so employees responsible for the smooth day-to-day running of a property need to have the ability for a complete overview and continuous monitoring. An easy solution for this is digital access management.

Don’t overlook anything. There are more routes around a property than just from the lobby to the room: parking lots, conference rooms, fitness areas, restaurants, any time of the day or night for individuals or groups.

It is possible for Access Management Software to be integrated into property management systems (PMS) for seamless access control. It’s simple and quick to allocate access rights and issue access cards, as well as configure and manage user profiles.

  • For smart Bluetooth apps
  • For multi-site management
  • For all types of rooms and elevator’s
  • For guests, employees and suppliers
  • For user-oriented service
  • For real-time monitoring and analysis

This software provides guests with an easy-to-understand system: a practical card that allows easy access to all relevant areas, such as car lot, rooms, and fitness studio or roof-terrace pool. Flexible security, independent of reception.

I am going to share with you at least 8 more items you need to consider for smart access solutions, right after a word from our sponsors.  3:18.800

Before the break, I said I was going to share with you at least 8 more items you need to consider for smart access solutions,

.

.

How can you link everything together?

In a property, everything is on the move: in hallways, elevators and stairways up and down.

Automatic door systems and electronic access systems control, permit and secure access entirely in line with requirements, which can also apply to every single door in the whole building. This means barrier-free passage is also possible for fire protection doors.

.

.

What do guests expect before they open their room door?

For starters, maximum convenience, as quickly as possible.

There should be no irritations on the way to the guest room. Good for guests and management alike: fewer formalities, no wasted time and more security with electronic door locks.

Today’s guest doesn’t enjoy the idea of carrying around a key attached to a big key fob. The lock on the room door should reflect the quality of your property, the room should open up for the guest without a problem – with a card or smartphone and electronic hospitality property door locks. It’s extremely convenient for management as well. Access authorization systems are now more efficient and user-friendly.

.

.

What technology does a hospitality property room need?

Technology that’s quiet, aesthetically pleasing and practical.

Guests want to feel at home, starting with a gently-closing door.

Guests should be able to move smoothly and quietly between rooms – and that goes for everyone, regardless of age or disability so you want a discreet closing mechanism that gently closes the doors behind guests without slamming loudly.

Today, with the right technology, guests in properties of any size can look forward to a contemporary, practical layout.  Even in smaller spaces, a modern, spacious atmosphere is possible if space is divided into zones for sleeping, working, eating and bathing with innovative room system.

.

.

What level of exclusivity should a hospitality property offer?

All-inclusive comfort.

In spa or fitness areas, property guests need privacy in public. To achieve this your priority should be a sophisticated design and security: Sliding walls and electronic locks that elegantly divide the space.

A spa area is a sensitive place and areas like this are often visited by external guests. Individual access authorization is crucial to preserve the atmosphere for guests. A universal room keycard allows access to exclusive designated areas.

If you have rooms in a spa that provide different uses, such as swimming, massage or yoga, they need an inviting atmosphere. There are modular room systems can be used to close up spaces and open them again as required. Glass systems can also make use of natural light to create ambience.

Thanks to the electronic door locks, readers and media, authorization can be granted and easily managed at any time and the hospitality property operator is always in control of access to the spa facilities. It’s simply far more convenient for property guests to use a room card so they can then move freely and effortlessly.

.

.

In conclusion

A hospitality property is more than just bricks and mortar, they move people. And it is these people who are now not just expecting a place to stay but instead an experience if you want them to return. Loud or hard to open doors is something many guests will remember, so smart access solutions has to be high on your list when considering how to improve your guest’s experience.
