Welcome to INNsider Tips.
In today’s INNsider Tip, I will talk about developing a training program.
.
Training can be unstructured or structured.
.
Unstructured is often free or low-cost programs that can involve coaching, mentoring or the new hire shadowing a more senior professional. This would be on-the-job training.
.
This is where an independent or smaller property has the opportunity to really shine because its size allows employees to take on a variety of roles.
.
Structured training could be a set time.
.
The Internet is a good place to start.
.
There are many professional associations, vendors and local chambers of commerce that offer training sessions for specific industries and products.
.
These are typically at a low cost and short duration.
Guest speakers, internal YouTube videos, webinars and brown-bag lunches can also be an easy way to get started.
Pooling resources with other businesses is a way to save costs, you can have a trainer come out and do training for all the businesses together.
.
A couple of things to keep in mind before you get started:
.
Most business owners think they are good leaders by default. Sorry to dissolution you but this is not always the case. Property owners should be trained as well. It is OK to admit you don’t know everything.
.
Bottom line:
Training has to be a well-thought-out priority. This is a must for the growth of your employees and your property.
.
